News from the EU Commission
New Community Programme "Europe for Citizens"

A new programme on European Citizenship will cover the period 2007-2013. During the last forum "Europe for Citizens", which took place from the 28th to the 29th of September, the European Institutions representatives announced that the Guide of the new Programme will be available at the end of October 2006.

The Guide, which includes simplified rules, will be modified and updated following the developments of the Programme and will be completed by calls for proposal.

The budget will finance most of the events such as the commemoration of the Nazism and Stalinism casualties, the celebration of the Europe Day (9th of May) and the 50th anniversary of the Rome treaty (signed on the 25th of March 1957).

According to those Institution representatives, this Programme should form a solid base to develop the feeling of European citizenship.

Consultation on healthcare services

The European commission launched a consultation on the healthcare services. The answers to this consultation, gathered on nine main question identified by the Communication recently published on that matter, are expected for the 31st of January 2007, by email to the concerned service or by post to the direction indicated at the end of the communication.

The new EU PROGRESS Programme 2007-2013

The PROGRESS programme is due to replace, for the period 2007-2013, the existing four Community Action Programmes and budget lines covering anti-discrimination, gender equality, the fight against social exclusion and employment incentive measures . The final adoption of the PROGRESS programme should take place in October 2006 and this single programme will complement the European Social Fund as well as the financial support provided for social dialogue, free movement of workers and social studies.

The INTI European Programme

The EU INTI programme (Integration of third country nationals) aims at promoting the integration in the EU member States of people who are not citizens of the EU, dialogue with civil society, develop integration models, seek out and evaluate best practices in the integration field. It provides funding support to actions elected under calls for proposals.
